Cranshaws Castle is set in the grounds of a farm and sporting estate, amidst breathtaking views of the rolling Berwickshire countryside. It is perfectly positioned for those wishing to enjoy a wide variety of country activities and sports, many of which the Castle is able to help organise directly.
The countryside surrounding the Cranshaws Castle is perhaps some of the most beautiful and varied north of the border. From lowland roads to steep moorland footpaths, there are walking routes to suit all ages and abilities. The Castle provides a ‘walking hamper’ for guests to make use of during their stay, complete with trail maps, thermos flasks and plastic anoraks in case of wet weather.
Picnics and Lunches*
Cranshaws Castle is happy to organise a picnic on the moor, or at one of the many scenic spots on the estate. Cranshaws Castle provides complementary use of their 8 on-road bicycles. Please note helmets are not provided and the Castle thoroughly recommends that guests bring their own should they wish to use the bicycles.
For guests wishing to incorporate field sports into their stay, high quality walked-up and driven grouse, as well as partridge and pheasant shooting can be arranged directly with the estate. Cranshaws Castle offers fishing on the River Whiteadder (a tributary of the Tweed) located a stone’s throw away from the Castle. For guests wishing to venture further afield, salmon fishing on one of the Tweed’s prime beats can also be arranged. Please note that guests must bring their own fishing rods and tackle. Cranshaws Castle is conveniently located near the Whiteadder Watersports and Sailing Centre, which offer guests the chance to both sail and fish on the Whiteadder reservoir for a small fee. The RYA approved sailing centre offers a safe sailing environment for novices and enthusiast alike, with tuition and equipment provided. Sailing course are also available throughout the year for all ages.
Cranshaws Castle lies approximately 11 miles from the town of Gifford where a pleasant nine-hole course can be found. A little further afield, in the large town of Haddington (approximately 17 miles form Cranshaws Castle) there is a long established course set in the grounds of a former country estate. For golfing enthusiasts, the world famous course at Muirfield is only a 40-minute drive away towards the coast.
